OXFORDSHIRE ESTATE

The brief was to respect the setting of the house, strengthen the existing woodland edges and enhance the surrounding chalk meadows, while retaining the openness and character of the wider landscape.

Across 20 acres of chalk meadow and established woodland, the landscape becomes the framework for the estate, shaping the setting of the house and creating a strong relationship between the garden, woodland and wider landscape.

Tree planting is central to the scheme, with carefully selected characterful trees used to establish the parkland setting. Each tree is chosen for its individual form, character and suitability to the chalk landscape.

The existing meadow will be enhanced with waves of perennial wildflowers following the natural contours of the land, adding seasonal colour while retaining the open character of the landscape.

The planting is deliberately restrained, allowing the existing landscape to remain the dominant character of the estate. New trees and meadow planting are introduced selectively, strengthening the transition between woodland, parkland and open meadow.
