PRIVATE COTTAGE, NEAR BATH

Harnessing the land’s potential, the garden is conceived as a productive landscape, overflowing with edible plants and designed to sustain both mind and body.

Set within the countryside near Bath, the design seeks to reconnect the house with its surrounding landscape, creating a series of spaces that move naturally from the more formal areas around the house into kitchen garden, orchard and meadow.

The planting concept is rooted in productivity and wellbeing. Fruit trees provide seasonal interest and structure, while medicinal herbs, edible plants and perennial crops bring a feeling of abundance to the garden. Beyond the productive garden, a new orchard and areas of wildflower meadow create a softer transition into the wider landscape. Existing vegetation is carefully retained and supplemented with new trees, hedging and layered planting, strengthening the structure of the garden whilst enhancing its biodiversity and seasonal character.

The intention is to create a landscape that feels productive, immersive and deeply connected to its setting.
